Psychology Workshop (1/21/24)
We discovered the latest insights and research on mental health and wellbeing in our past psychology webinar. Dr. Frances Champagne from The University of Texas at Austin joined us as a featured speaker, she shared her expertise and experience on a range of topics. This was a great opportunity to learn from one of the leading voices in psychology today.
Biomedical Engineering Workshop (1/6/24)
Dr. Mansy May, a biomedical engineer and professor at the University of Florida, spoke about the different subgroups and fields that work together to form biomedical engineering. She implemented visual demonstrations of how certain medical devices function and also looked into the emergence of biomedical engineering throughout history. But Dr. May also forecasted the future of the field -- holding discussions on the implementation and usage of AI. Through her interactive questionnaires and activities, we got to learn a lot more about the blooming and growing field of biomedical engineering.
Physical Therapy Workshop (11/30/23)
Dr. Jennifer Brach, a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, spoke at this workshop in order to speak to students about her experience researching aging, gait, exercise, and physical function. She specializes in community-based participatory research related to physical activity, with ongoing projects such as On The Move, an exercise program for older adults to improve their walking efficiency, and her Program to Improve Mobility in Aging (PRIMA).
​​Radiology Workshop (10/27/23)
With experience researching chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-explosive agent mitigation, Dr. Elizabeth Ambrose spoke at this workshop in order to provide students with information regarding different aspects of pharmacy research, such as drug design and emergency therapeutics. Her specialty is neuropharmacology and psychiatric pharmacy.
Pharmacy Workshop (09/17/23)
With experience researching chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-explosive agent mitigation, Dr. Elizabeth Ambrose spoke at this workshop in order to provide students with information regarding different aspects of pharmacy research, such as drug design and emergency therapeutics. Her specialty is neuropharmacology and psychiatric pharmacy.
Neurology Workshop (08/13/23)
Featuring Roya Tompkins, a neurodiagnostic specialist and founder of Tompkins Associates with over 25 years of experience, students were exposed to the world of neurology, neurophysiology, and neurodiagnosis and given the opportunity to ask questions, receive advice, and immerse themselves in informational neurology content.
Pathology Workshop (09/25/22)
Students were given a chance to meet, network, and interact with professional pathologist Dr. Raisa Balbuena-Merle, an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine and clinician-educator who specializes in blood banking & transfusion medicine, hematopathology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology.
Ophthalmology/Optometry Workshop (07/31/22)
Three ophthalmology/optometry professionals spoke at this workshop. Dr. Soshian Sarrafpour and Dr. Kimberly Gokoffski, ophthalmologists at Yale University and University of Southern California respectively, gave students the opportunity to learn about their specialized work in glaucoma treatment and visual pathways in the brain. Dr. Daphne Chan, an optometrist at the University of California, San Francisco who specializes in optic nerve abnormalities, retinal tears, and contact lenses, among other things, also spoke about her experiences with optometry and the management of eye disorders through ocular health exams.
​​Nursing Workshop (03/25/22)
Attendees were informed about nursing careers and given the opportunity to connect with two nursing professionals from UT Austin: Dr. Kavita Radhakrishnan, whose research involves health disparities in heart failure and health interventions that enable “aging in place,” and Dr. Chris Abbyad, who specializes in women’s health, perinatal health, and racial disparities in healthcare.
